Researchers who wish to submit original material from their Area of Research to KOREN should complete the form below. This permission form gives KOREN permission to use copyrighted works for educational, non-commercial purposes, including professional development and suggested lesson plans based on submitted original works. Researchers retain full rights of their copyrighted content.

Rights Relating to Copyright Holders:

  • Maintaining Moral Rights – Researchers will retain the right to be identified as the author of their work, the right to maintain research integrity of their works that could harm their reputation or distort its meaning, and the right to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym, if they so choose.
  • APA Style Citation – Original works will be cited/referenced using APA style formatting.
  • Retaining Copyright Control Over Original Works - Researchers will retain control over how KOREN will use their work, such as its presentation on the Open Educational Resource (OER Lesson Plans), and the duration of its association with KOREN.

Copyright law in Canada is governed by the Copyright Act R.S.C. This is Federal statute, meaning that the laws for copyright are consistent throughout any province or territory in Canada.

How Creative Works will be Used:

  • Included within OER Lesson Plans website feature – By granting permission, researchers agree to have their creative works included in the Open Education Resource or OER Lesson Plans. However, researchers who prefer not to contribute to the OER Lesson Plans may chose instead to have their materials included within the designated Area of Research.
  • Experience with Best Practice Approach – By permitting the use of creative works, researchers enable a range of users (i.e., physical educators and university student-teachers) to gain skills and experience with different learning and teaching pedagogies and adapt translated materials to educational contexts.
  • Continuous accessible resources for users – Permission enables resources to remain available on the website, either indefinitely or with prior notice for removal when necessary. This ensures continuous and accessible content, leading to sustainable use of course materials for ongoing educational needs.

Removal of Updating Creative Works on KOREN:

  • Updating research – Researchers may update or replace existing creative works within the OER Lesson Plans or the Area of Research with new research evidence.
  • Changing the medium of creative works – Researchers who want to change the ‘medium’ of their submitted creative works (e.g., from audio-video to podcast).
  • Modifying Creative Commons attribution – Researchers may modify the licensing of their creative works (e.g., changing from CC BY-NC to CC BY-NC-ND).
  • Requesting economic rights for works – Researchers retain the right to modify the licensing status of their creative works, including the option of changing the attribution from non-commercial to commercial use. However, changing the licensing to commercial will lead to the removal of original works.
  • Using creative works for publication – Researchers may request the removal of original works from KOREN for use in academic journal publications.

Copyright holders who wish to request changes to creative works may either complete another permission form or email their requests to lyn.williams@koren.com. If owners would like creative works removed from the website, advance notice is required so that supplemental data can be found to replace the existing research.

*** Researchers can submit any number of original works during the year. All resources may be listed on a single permission form upon submission ***

Granting Permission for Originally Created Content and OER Lesson Plans

As part of KOREN’s collections of research resources, the website also includes the feature for Open Educational Lesson Plans, for curated research to be translated for physical educators and other users. The submitted research will be accessible to teachers, local schools, students, and provincial organizations involved in sport, performance, health, and wellness. This access supports efforts to connect local communities with university faculty, staff, and researchers, and to promote greater awareness of their research areas and expertise within the region.
